Frustrated Job Seekers

Completing the concept that a fragmented internet recruiting world is ruining online recruiting, here is an article that touches on the job seeker frustration.  In it, Jennifer Hamm mentions some of the frustrations:

Still, trolling job boards remains a very time consuming process, contends Richard H. Beatty, author of “The Ultimate Job Search.” There are over 40,000 career websites, including mega job boards, industry-specific sites and listings on company sites.

“Job seekers are faced with the daunting task of somehow screening through this bewildering array to discover those sites that will prove most productive for them,” Beatty says. “Huge amounts of precious job-search time can be completely wasted.”

So if there is any confusion about what job seekers in 2008 have to contend with, let me summarize:

  1. 40,000 career websites that THEY are supposed to search to find a job
  2. Search parameters that either turn up too many or too few or simply the wrong job match
  3. Resume posting that is open to spammers, work at home offers and all other annoying “non job” items
  4. Application processes that are confusing and time consuming
  5. Finally, that cold, impersonal rejection email

What a job seeker needs is a personal “Jerry McQuire” - someone or something that is looking for that perfect job 24 hours a day, every day of every week.

Here’s what THAT would look like to job seekers:

  1. Fill out ONE profile, telling the system what you’ve done and what you want to do in your career
  2. Be searched for every job at companies of your choosing every day while you do other things
  3. Remain anonymous until you see something that you are highly interested in
  4. Create an “ideal job” profile as wide (if you are active in a search) or narrow (if you are very passive but always want to know if that dream job is available) as YOU want it to be.
  5. Only be notified of matches that fit your requirements
  6. Only release your contact information once you know about the opening.

Job seekers rejoice.  Your future is today and this program exists.
